How to Build an Online Teaching Platform for Teachers in Egypt: Features, Video Protection and Payments

What a teacher's platform in Egypt actually needs: course and lesson pages, access codes, exams, protected videos, Vodafone Cash and Fawry payments, and an admin panel for assistants. Ready-made platform or custom build?

An online teaching platform for a teacher in Egypt needs five things to work: course and lesson pages students can follow on a phone, a simple way to pay or redeem an access code, protected videos, exams with automatic grading, and an admin panel the teacher's assistants can run. Everything else is optional at the start. Most platforms fail not because of missing features but because students find them confusing on mobile, or because videos leak in the first week.

Who is a teacher's platform for?

  • Independent teachers who teach secondary school students (Thanaweya Amma) or preparatory stages, and want to sell lessons online next to the centre
  • Education centres that want one platform for several teachers
  • Instructors and trainers selling professional courses

The needs differ: a single teacher needs a strong brand and simple payments; a centre needs several teachers, permissions and reports.

Which features does the platform need?

How do you protect the videos?

No video protection is perfect. The goal is to make leaking slow, traceable and not worth it.

What works in practice:

  • Never offer a direct download link. Stream the videos from a video host that supports protection, not from an open file link.
  • Show a moving watermark with the student's name or phone number over the video, so any leaked copy points to the account that leaked it.
  • Limit devices per account (for example one phone and one computer) and log out other sessions.
  • Use a mobile app for the most valuable content. On Android an app can block screenshots and screen recording; on iOS it can detect recording and hide the video.
  • Expire access at the end of the term or after a set number of views if your model needs it.

Access codes, wallets or card payment?

Many teachers in Egypt sell access codes: the student pays at the centre or a bookstore and enters a code on the platform. It is simple and works for students without cards. Online payment adds convenience: mobile wallets, InstaPay, Fawry reference codes and cards through a local payment provider. Most platforms end up supporting both. See payment gateway integration in Egypt.

Website, app, or both?

OptionGood forLimits
Website (works on mobile)Starting fast, one version for all devices, easy updatesWeaker video protection
Mobile appLarge audiences, stronger protection, notificationsApp store accounts, review time, two platforms
BothEstablished teachers and centresHigher cost and maintenance

A common path is to launch a mobile-friendly website, then add an app when the audience grows. Cross-platform tools like Flutter keep one codebase for Android and iOS; see Flutter vs React Native vs native.

Ready-made platform or custom build?

Ready-made platforms (subscription services for teachers) launch quickly and cost less at the start, but you share their design, their limits and their rules, and moving away later is hard. A custom platform carries your brand, fits how you actually teach (codes, groups, assistants, parent reports) and belongs to you, but needs a proper scope and budget. A good rule: start ready-made if you are testing online teaching; build custom when online students are a real part of your income.

Design matters more than people think

Students use the platform on cheap phones and mobile data, often at night before an exam. The design decisions that matter most:

  • Fast pages and light video players on mobile data
  • One clear "continue where you stopped" button
  • Arabic first, with the same terms the teacher uses in class
  • Simple sign-up with a phone number, not long forms
  • Clear exam screens: a visible timer, saved answers, and a result screen that explains mistakes

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to build a teaching platform?

A focused first version with courses, codes, protected video and exams usually takes a few weeks to two or three months, depending on the features and whether a mobile app is included.

Can students pay without a bank card?

Yes. Access codes, mobile wallets, InstaPay and Fawry reference codes all work without a card.

Can I stop students from sharing their accounts?

You can make it hard: device limits, single active session, and a watermark with the student's details. Combined, these stop most sharing.

Do I need an app from day one?

Not usually. A mobile-friendly website is enough to start. Add an app when you have a large audience or need stronger video protection.

Who owns the content and the student data?

You should. Make sure the contract and the accounts (hosting, video host, payment provider) are in your name. See 12 clauses to check in a development contract.
