Why Isn't My Website Showing on Google? 9 Real Reasons (and Fixes)
You built a website and it's nowhere on Google. Here are the nine real reasons new sites don't show up — from indexing to speed to backlinks — and exactly how to fix each one.
You (or your agency) built a website. You search your business name — nothing. You search what you do — nothing. Before you panic or blame the developer, know this: for a new site, not showing up immediately is normal. But sometimes it's a fixable mistake. Here are the nine real reasons, most common first.
1. Google hasn't discovered it yet (the #1 reason for new sites)
New sites take days to weeks to appear. Google has to crawl and index you first. Fix: Set up Google Search Console, submit your sitemap.xml, and use URL Inspection → Request Indexing on your key pages. This is the single fastest thing you can do.
2. The site is accidentally blocked (noindex / robots.txt)
Many sites launch with a "noindex" tag or a blocking robots.txt left over from development. Google obeys it and stays away. Fix: Check your pages aren't tagged noindex and that robots.txt allows crawling. Search Console will flag this.
3. It's simply too new
Even indexed, a brand-new domain has little authority, so it ranks low at first. This is expected for the first few months. Fix: Patience + the steps below. Rankings climb as trust builds.
4. You're searching a keyword you can't win yet
If you search "web design" and you're a two-month-old site, you won't be on page one against 10-year-old competitors. But you can rank for longer, specific phrases. Fix: Target specific, local, buying-intent keywords ("UI/UX design company in Riyadh") not broad ones.
5. The site is slow or broken on mobile
Google ranks by speed and mobile experience. A heavy, slow site gets buried. Fix: Compress images, use a modern fast build, and test on a real phone.
6. Thin or duplicate content
A few pages with little text — or the same content as everyone else — gives Google nothing to rank. Fix: Add genuinely useful pages and articles that answer what customers search for.
7. No backlinks (weak authority)
Sites with no other sites linking to them look untrustworthy to Google. This is the biggest reason good new sites stall on page 2–3. Fix: Get links from your social profiles, business directories, a Google Business Profile, Behance/LinkedIn, and by being mentioned.
8. Missing technical SEO foundations
No sitemap, no structured data, broken links, no canonical URLs — all quietly hold you back. Fix: These should be built in. If your site doesn't have them, that's a build problem.
9. Weak or missing titles & descriptions
If every page has the same (or no) title, Google can't tell them apart. Fix: Give every page a unique, keyword-led title and description.
How long does it really take?
Indexing: days to ~2 weeks. Ranking for easy, specific terms: weeks. Ranking for competitive terms: 3–6 months of consistent content and links. Anyone promising "page 1 in a week" is selling you something.
A website that isn't found isn't a website — it's an expensive brochure nobody reads. SEO isn't optional; it's the whole point.
